“Our”wineries

This is a list of wineries, we love, by no means complete. It shows our criteria: we don’t care about big and small, biological or conventional, natural or industrial. We only care about their wines and if we like them. This is NOT a list o f “the best wineries of..” it is our personal and biased list, it is also not a ranking, but buy your wine there and tell them that you are following reccommendation from wuhan-umbria

  • Scacciadiavoli, Montefalco
  • Duca della Corgna, Castiglione del Lago
  • Terre Margaritelli. Torgiano
  • Anlag-Nichterlein, Rodt Pfalz
  • Villa Bucher, San Venanzo
  • LumiLuna, Marsciano
  • Le Vellette, Orvieto
  • Palazzone, Orvieto
  • Cantina Sociale, Oliena
  • Conte Maso, Campiglia d’Orcia
  • Campotondo, Campiglia d’Orcia
  • San Marcello, San Marcello

These are all wineries from which we buy regularly. There are many others present in our cellar

Opinions

  • The Role of PVPP in Wine Clarification

One of the drawbacks of natural wine is instability.  I have tasted numerous of white natural wines of which I liked the first sip (I cannot remember many reds that i Liked) ,  but which I found undrinkable after some months on the shelves.  The practice of non clarification and non filtration leaves a lot…

  • Natural wines – a hoax?

Riccardo Cotarella attacks the “natural wine movement” and its representatives head-on in an article in “Gambero Rosso” (https://www.gamberorosso.it/notizie/notizie-vino/vini-naturali-inganno-cotarella). I fully agree with Cotarella’s technical comments. However, I don’t agree with the overall condemnation. The categorisation of wine producers into “conventional” and “natural” is unproductive. Top-quality wine producers prioritise reducing SO2 levels in their wine and…

  • pros and cons of natural wine

I like to try natural wines, probably because the first natural white/orange wine I tried gave me a very good impression, which had a nice aroma of salty citrus peel, and some fine hint of pickles. I tried hundreds of natural wines after that experience. The following are the pros and cons of natural wine based…

Wine Tasting

  • one of my favourite wines
    one of my favourite wines

It is a Sardegna vermentino, a Cagliari Doc. As a vermentino, it has lower acidity than average, and some might say there’s too much bitterness, but not me. It has a very special floral fragrance, a kind of fragrance belonging to some small waxy yellow flowers growing in China and blossoming in winter.  The place…

  • Soana

In 2016 we imported some 100rd bottle of Soana to China. Some of them we lost and we rediscovered in 2019. The wine had changed, but nearly to the better. The usual fruits of apples and pears did transform to tropical fruit and a very elegant scent of confiture. Soana is the product of the…

We will have a themed tasting every Sunday afternoon in villa Orfei, via Enrico del pozzo 92, Perugia. the theme for last Sunday is trebbiano spoletino. trebbiano spoletino is a white grape grown in the center of Umbria, Montefalco. We bought the clean one and that “sulle bucce”, the orange wine version. My judgment about natural wines is mostly negative. I…

  • Nuricante Vertical

We had a  tasting  of Nuricante from Duca  della Corgna on 25th April 2024 in or Perugia wine cellar.  We tried the vintages 2019, 2020,2021,2022.  Usually we presume the older wines will have a deeper color than the younger ones, but actually the 2021 vintage has a more golden color than the 2020 vintage, but…
